Ceres’ bright spot is getting weirder

One of the big mysteries of Ceres has been the strange bright spot seen by the Hubble Space Telescope and some ground observatories.  As Dawn approaches, the spot has been shrinking.  As any nearsighted person knows, this sin’t because the spot is actually getting smaller but because it’s getting better resolved.  The spot is *very* bright, but also very small — and now Dawn is close enough to tell that its the b ottom of an impact crater.  But here’s the really weird part: it’s not a spot.  It’s a pair of spots.  Scientists can speculate about it, but at this point no one really knows what’s going on there.  That will soon change, though.  😉
