One Year of the Sun, in Full HD

In honor of the Solar Dynamic Observatory (SDO)’s sixth year of solar observation, NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center has released this stunning full-HD movie representing an entire year in the life of our Sun.  (Slightly more than a year, actually, as this video goes from Jan 1, 2015 to Jan 28, 2016.)  It’s beautiful and mesmerizing, watching the loops of plasma rippling around the Sun in thrall to its magnetic fields.  Keep your headphones/speakers on; the music’s quite nice as well, and then they start telling you more about the amazing, mind-bending things you’re seeing.
